At Marymount University, creating a supportive and inclusive environment for students is a top priority. That's why the Safe Space Saints campaign was born. This initiative aims to provide a safe and welcoming space for individuals seeking support and guidance, while also promoting the university as a safe space for all students. In this blog post, we will explore how Safe Space Saints is trying to make a difference and share some tips on how you can contribute to creating a supportive community. One of the key aspects of Safe Space Saints is the focus on mental health and well-being. The campaign offers resources and support for students who may be struggling with their mental health or personal development. By providing links to the university's counselors and wellness events, Safe Space Saints ensures that students have access to the help they need. It's important to remember that seeking support is a sign of strength, and by encouraging students to reach out, Safe Space Saints is trying to continue the break down of the stigma surrounding mental health. Another unique feature of Safe Space Saints is the "our stories" section on our website. Students can email us their stories of their mental health journey along with a photo of either themselves or of something they hold dear to end up getting published on our website. This allows students to express themselves openly and honestly, knowing that their stories may resonate with others. By sharing these stories, students can find solace in knowing that they are not alone in their struggles. It also helps to foster a sense of community and understanding among students. In addition to the website, Safe Space Saints also utilizes social media, particularly Instagram, to spread messages of inspiration and support. By sharing uplifting quotes and other things, the campaign aims to create a positive online space for students. Social media can be a powerful tool for connecting with others and promoting a supportive community. So, how can you contribute to creating a supportive community? Here are a few tips: 1. Be kind and inclusive: Treat others with respect and kindness. Make an effort to include everyone and make them feel welcome. 2. Listen and empathize: Take the time to listen to others and try to understand their perspective. Show empathy and offer support when needed. 3. Speak up: If you witness any form of discrimination or bullying, don't stay silent. Speak up and let others know that such behavior is not acceptable. 4. Seek help when needed: If you're struggling with your mental health or personal development, don't hesitate to reach out for support. There are resources available, both on and off-campus, that can help. 5. Engage in community events: Participate in wellness events, workshops, and forums organized by Safe Space Saints or other organizations on campus. This will not only help you learn and grow but also contribute to the supportive community. Creating a supportive community takes effort from everyone involved. Let's all join hands and contribute to creating a supportive community where everyone feels valued and heard.
