In today's society, mental health is a topic that is still often overlooked or stigmatized. Many individuals suffer in silence, afraid to speak up and seek the support they need. However, at Marymount University, we are committed to breaking the stigma and creating a safe space for students to openly discuss their mental health. The Safe Space Saints campaign aims to provide a supportive community environment where students can feel comfortable sharing their experiences and seeking guidance. We believe that by encouraging open conversations about mental health, we can create a culture of understanding and support on campus. One of the ways we promote mental health conversations is through our website. We provide links to reach out to the university's counselors, as well as information about all the wellness events happening on campus. This platform allows students to express themselves without fear of judgment, fostering a sense of belonging and support within the university community. In addition to our website, we have also created an Instagram account that shares inspirational messages about mental health as well as post about the wellness events that occur on campus. This platform allows us to reach a wider audience and spread awareness about the importance of mental health conversations. If you're looking to start a conversation about mental health at Marymount University, here are a few tips to get you started: 1. Educate yourself: Take the time to learn about mental health and the different challenges that individuals may face. This will help you better understand and empathize with others. 2. Be a good listener: When someone opens up to you about their mental health, listen without judgment. Offer a safe space for them to express themselves and validate their feelings. 3. Share your own experiences: By sharing your own experiences with mental health, you can help break down barriers and show others that they are not alone. If you feel comfortable enough in getting your story out there, you can email us your story at safespacesaints@gmail.com. Your vulnerability may inspire others to open up as well. 4. Encourage professional help: While it's important to offer support, it's also crucial to encourage individuals to seek professional help when needed. Remind them that there are resources available on campus, such as counselors, who can provide the necessary support. 5. Spread awareness: Use your voice and platforms to spread awareness about mental health. Share resources, articles, and personal stories to help educate others and break the stigma.
6. Join events: Marymount offers many events in which mental health is discussed. Marymount also offers events to give students a break and allow them to de-stress. Join these events and meet other students who will be able to understand you to extent. Or join these events to have a moment of calm! Remember, breaking the stigma surrounding mental health is a collective effort. By promoting open conversations and providing a supportive community environment, we can create a culture of understanding and support at Marymount University. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our fellow students.
